Free VST plugins KVR audio is an excellent searchable database of instrument and effect plugins.

MySpace is a great free way of hosting your tracks. Just set up a free artist account and you're away.
Youtube of course has loads of useful tutorials and demonstrations and interviews, put up teachers, users, magazines and manufacturers.

Sound on Sound
Lots of useful tutorials, reviews and other articles. Some require a subscription, but many don't. For example here's one on Buying your first mic
Computer Music
Lots of free tutorials etc, including info on the free CM VST instruments and effects (you get these on the DVD that comes free with the magazine every month.
